Red barrels affected by cybersecurity incident

Red Barrels, the developer of Outlast, Outlast 2 and The Outlast Trials, recently experienced a data breach that affected the work of the studio and its employees.

According to the company's statement, its “internal IT systems were recently affected by a cybersecurity incident in which some of its data was accessed.” Once the breach was discovered, the developer took measures to protect systems and information. It hired a group of outside cybersecurity experts to “conduct an in-depth investigation into the incident.”

As stated in the announcement, the investigation is now complete and players were not affected by the breach. However, the incident had an impact on the studio's work process: “The impact on our production schedule was significant.” Red Barrels said that some things had to be postponed and promised to release a more detailed update soon.

According to reports, the compromised data could include game source codes, game builds, personnel information and company credit card information.
