Mets player chats with former Brewers teammate after Wild Card triple

The New York Mets won Game 1 of their NL wild-card game against the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday night, thanks in part to Jesse Winker's two-run triple in the second inning that tied things at two runs apiece.

The heightened energy of playoff baseball is always palpable, and Winker's reaction to the triple couldn't have been more evident. After the game was tied, Winker was fired up and the former Brewer exchanged words with his ex-teammate Willy Adames. Adames was seen standing at shortstop and talking nonsense with Winker, who started the argument while he was running the bases.

H/T to @JomboySports on X (formerly Twitter) for the breakdown of what appears to have been said. Winker hit Adames with a “F— you, mother——.”

After Adames appeared to fire back, Winker repeatedly asked Adames, “What are you going to do about it?” To which Adames replied, “I'll let you know in the parking lot.”

Adames was asked after the game about the argument in the second inning and attributed it to Winker being Winker.

“I don't know what was going through his mind, but he just started saying some things and I said something back,” Adames told the media after the game. “I don't know it. I think that's the type of player he is. … I think that's part of his personality. It was just a little surprise for me, but we’re not giving in.”

When asked about his role after the game, Winker deflected.

“I don’t really want to talk about it. I just want to concentrate on the game tomorrow,” he said after the win.

Expect this to be a high-energy playoff game, but as Adames mentioned, the Brewers won't be backing down as they look to keep their season alive.
