A Connecticut man is accused of beating a pregnant woman during a carjacking attempt in the Dunkin' Donuts drive-thru

A Connecticut man was arrested after he allegedly attacked a pregnant woman while she tried to steal her vehicle.

East Haven police released a statement Wednesday after reports of an attempted carjacking at a Dunkin' Donuts drive-thru.

According to authorities, the incident occurred on Tuesday, October 1, when 28-year-old William Rodriguez pulled into the parking lot directly in front of the victim's car.

Rodriguez then allegedly got out of his vehicle, climbed into the passenger side of the woman's car and demanded her keys. When she refused to hand over her keys, Rodriguez began beating the four-month pregnant woman before she was able to escape the vehicle and run into the restaurant for help.

An employee working in the drive-thru witnessed the attack and notified two co-workers, who then ran outside and grabbed Rodriguez, who police said tried to escape in the victim's vehicle.

When officers arrived at the scene, Rodriguez continued to struggle and bit a paramedic's hand after he was arrested.

The vehicle in Rodriguez's possession at the time of the attack, a 2016 Hyundai Elantra, had previously been reported stolen.
