Location: Dodger Stadium (Los Angeles)
Channel: FS1
Likely throwers: RHP Jack Flaherty (13-7, 3.17 ERA) vs. TBD
Opportunities: LAD-145 | SD +122; over/under: 8.0

The Dodgers will turn to midseason newcomer Jack Flaherty in Game 1 before allowing top free agent pitcher signed over the winter Yoshinobu Yamamoto to make his MLB postseason debut in Game 2. The Padres expect to tap Dylan Cease as the Game 1 starter – he was previously slated to start Game 3 of the Wild Card Series. These clubs have met twice in the postseason: in 2020, when the Dodgers defeated the Padres; and in 2022, when the Padres won three of four games en route to an NLCS appearance.

Here's what you need to know about both sides' participation in Game 1.

Padres: This is San Diego's third playoff appearance in the last five years. They reached the NLCS in 2022 and were defeated by the Dodgers in the NLDS in 2020. The Padres won the season series from the Dodgers, going 8-5 and outscoring Los Angeles by six points in those 14 games.

Dodgers: The Dodgers secured first place in the National League after a 98-64 regular season. Los Angeles is seeking its first playoff series win since 2022 after losing in each of its last two Divisional Series. The Dodgers are not expected to allow Shohei Ohtani to pitch this postseason as he continues to recover from elbow surgery last fall.
