The latest Sims Project Rene leak hints at an experience more reminiscent of The Sims Mobile than fans might expect

New information about the upcoming Project Rene has appeared online and gives us a first possible big insight into the next episode of the The Sims Franchise. The leak, which reportedly comes from a recent private playtest, reveals a few more details about the game's possible mechanics and possible overall direction.

In one last post Taking to the aptly titled /r/GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit, a user who claims to be part of a recent playtest has revealed what it's all about. They've detailed everything, from the information on the game's private Google Play Store page to some screenshots of the playtest itself.

They claim that the game was previously referred to internally as The Sims 5 and that this is no longer the case, which is consistent with the recent confirmation from developer Electronic Arts The Sims 5 is not in the works any time soon.

The post also describes some game mechanics, which include completing daily quests in a large Parisian-style district. Although the character creator was absent from the early build, the user shared some screenshots of the four pre-made Sims that were available to play.

The overall art style looks very similar here The Sims Mobilewith exaggerated proportions and a highly stylized world, as well as the very mobile-focused interface. The focus on completing tasks will also be immediately familiar to anyone who has played this game.

In the screenshots, we can see the player working a shift at a local cafe, tapping on devices to make coffee and deliver it to customers. Jobs like this will supposedly reward you with in-game currency that you can spend on outfits and other customization options. The user points out that you can currently only choose between five preset outfits, but this is likely just a limitation of the early access build.

As a first playtest, you should of course keep in mind that everything can change here and can be revised before the finished product is released. However, for those who were expecting something more traditional, this could all be quite disappointing news The Sims Game.

Personally, I'm not that surprised as that was clear from the start Project Rene was always intended to be more of a free-to-play spinoff – despite some claims to the contrary.
