School bus fire in Pittsburgh; Men accused of breaking into unlocked cars in Carnegie

Here is some of the latest news from this morning, Thursday October 3rd:

Fire ravages school bus in East Hills

Just after 3 p.m. Wednesday, a school bus burst into flames in the East Hills neighborhood near Sunrise Avenue and Fairlawn Street, Pittsburgh Public Safety said.

The driver, who was the only one on the bus at the time, called 9-1-1 to report smoke pouring into the bus. When officers and the Pittsburgh Fire Department arrived, the bus was completely engulfed in flames. The driver was able to exit the vehicle before the fire spread.

There were no students on board at the time and no injuries were reported.

The fire investigation unit determined the cause of the fire was mechanical. Sunrise Avenue was closed in both directions between Fairlawn Street and Remington Drive during the investigation.

Penn Hills man arrested in Brookline

A Penn Hills man who had reportedly been wanted since January was taken into custody Tuesday, the Allegheny County Sheriff's Office said.

Arrest warrants were issued for 32-year-old Sofion Moore of Penn Hills in January. The sheriff's office said the first warrant related to his failure to appear at a status conference in a case involving firearms charges and the second related to a probation violation in a case involving burglary.

Moore also has an active arrest warrant for escape after he left Renewal Inc., a nonprofit drug and alcohol rehabilitation organization, in December 2023.

Detectives have narrowed down Moore's location to an address on Bellaire Place in Brookline. When investigators arrived at the address today, they reportedly found Moore hiding under a table in the dining room of the residence.

Moore was arrested without incident and taken to the Allegheny County Jail.

Two men are accused of breaking into unlocked cars and stealing items

Two men are facing charges for allegedly breaking into unlocked cars and stealing items in several communities.

Carnegie police said last week that several unlocked cars were broken into in the Rosslyn Heights and Carnegie Borough area.

On October 1, police obtained two arrest warrants for Cody Cosentino, 33, and Chandler Cosentino, 20. Both are charged with three counts of theft and criminal conspiracy.

Police said both men were caught in possession of stolen property on September 25. Two days earlier, Chandler was arrested on a Pennsylvania State Police warrant in Beaver County for criminal attempt, criminal trespass/simple trespassing, loitering and prowling at night, and criminal attempt, theft from a motor vehicle.

Chandler was previously charged with carjacking in Carnegie and fleeing police in July. Officers also found money, heroin and suspected Xanax in his possession.

Police said Cody was arrested Wednesday afternoon after he was spotted at Getgo in Carnegie. Police are still looking for Chandler. Anyone who sees him is asked to contact the Carnegie Police Department or the police department that has jurisdiction over the area where he is seen.
