Video editing app Captions introduces an AI-powered social media manager for websites

AI-powered video editing app Captions introduces a new tool for websites that manages the content publishing schedule for videos and even generates videos for that data based on relevant topics on the site.

The tool first scans the website for content, keywords, service offerings, and key selling points of a website and creates a content plan. Currently, the social media strategy is mainly focused on Instagram Reels and TikTok in the form of videos, which is not surprising since Captions specializes in creating and editing videos. The company said it would explore other formats in the future.

The company believes the tool could help a small cafe highlight chefs and menu items or create videos about the services offered by a dental clinic. The AI-powered social media manager also takes relevant seasonal trends into account.

In June, the startup launched a feature to automatically create and edit videos based on a 12-character AI command prompt. The new tools use a website's content and relevant trends as a place to create prompts and videos based on them. Since it is a business tool, a seller can upload their profile to create a digital twin and have the AI tool create videos about that character. Additionally, they can also apply their brand identity to videos, including custom colors, logos, and fonts.

When we asked Gaurav Misra, CEO of Captions, whether AI-generated videos take away the authenticity of creators who struggle to create content for their businesses, he said the tool helps people who don't have the resources to create high-quality content yourself.

“I think that in this use case these companies are not trying to go viral. I think they want to have an online presence and have something about their company that people understand. And that’s exactly what we’re helping people achieve here,” he said

Misra added that business owners already have many hats and with this new AI social media manager, they don't need to learn video recording and editing from scratch to create content.

Captions also said that in the future it will allow companies to include more of their pages off-site so that AI can create a better content plan.

In July, Captions raised $60 million in Series C funding from Kleiner Perkins, Sequoia Capital and Andreessen Horowitz, as well as new investors – Adobe Ventures, HubSpot Ventures and Jared Leto. The company plans to put this money into developing its own AI capabilities.

“We have been at it for three and a half years and have raised a total of $100 million. We were cash flow neutral. Our goal with the funds raised is to actually invest in the AI side because I think the opportunity is huge,” Misra said.

“Anything you can capture with a camera today, you can create using AI a few years in the future.” And across the board, fidelity will also improve. In general, long-term, we’re trying to create a world where you don’t have to physically shoot or edit videos to have something you want to share.”

The company is making this feature available to users of its Max plan, which costs $25 per month, and Scale plan, which costs $70 per month.
