Man arrested for robbing 21-year-old woman at gunpoint

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – A Sioux Falls man has been arrested after robbing a woman sitting in her car on Monday evening.

21-year-old Adam Ismail of Sioux Falls has been arrested for first-degree robbery, aggravated assault and intentional damage to property.

According to Sioux Falls Police, the incident occurred around 8:15 p.m. on September 30 on the 700 block of South Tanglewood Ave.

A 21-year-old woman was parked and waiting for a friend in her car when a man came up and pointed a gun at her.

The man took her keys and threw them, took her cell phone and broke it and took her wallet that had personal documents and money inside.

The suspect then took off running. He did not try to take the car.

The victim’s friend called 911 when they arrived.

Detectives with the violent crime unit began looking into the incident and found the vehicle the suspect drove in.

The suspect was pulled over on Tuesday afternoon near Benson Road and Galaxy Lane. A few of the items stolen from the women were found in the suspect’s vehicle as well as a handgun.

Public Information Officer Sam Clemens said this is an unusual case because there was no connection between the victim and the suspect, but an arrest was made quickly by using surveillance video from the neighborhood and identifying the suspect’s vehicle.

Police said the suspect does not live in the area where the robbery occurred and drove there.
