1 dead, 3 injured in car crash in Iron County

IRON COUNTY, Mich. (WLUC) – One person is dead and three are injured after a car crash in Iron County Thursday morning.

According to a news release from the Iron County Sheriff's Office, officers were dispatched around 3:11 a.m. to the report of a single-vehicle accident on Ottawa Lake Road in Iron River.

When officers arrived on scene, they discovered a 2008 Chrysler Town & Country was traveling west on Ottawa Lake Road, failed to negotiate a curve, left the roadway and struck a tree.

A male passenger from Iron River was dead on arrival. The female driver and another male passenger, both from Iron River, were taken to Apirus Iron River Hospital with serious injuries.

According to officials, a third male passenger from Indiana had to be removed from the vehicle using the Jaws of Life and was also transported to Aspirus Iron River with serious injuries.

Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the accident.

The incident remains under investigation.

Iron County Sheriff's deputies were assisted at the scene by West Iron County Fire Department, Iron County Search and Rescue, Aspirus EMS, Iron County Central Dispatch, Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River, Michigan State Police accident investigators and Northland Towing.
