A man was arrested following a road rage incident in Folsom, police said

An El Dorado County man allegedly drove under the influence and hit someone he was following in his pickup truck while they were on the phone reporting him for dispatch.

FOLSOM, Calif. (AP) — A man was arrested Wednesday in Folsom after he allegedly drove under the influence, punched another man in the face, crashed his vehicle and then fled from police, authorities said.

Shortly after 5:30 p.m., officers arrived at Riley and Natoma streets near historic Folsom for a traffic violence incident, according to Folsom Police Department spokesman Det. Andrew Graham. The caller, an unidentified man, said another man driving a Ford pickup was following him.

Police identified the pickup driver as 24-year-old Yamni Clarin of El Dorado County.

Clarin allegedly got out of his truck and hit the caller while he was on the phone with dispatch, police told ABC10. According to police, the suspect then got back into his truck and drove away.

Shortly thereafter, Clarin allegedly crashed his truck into a utility box near Riley Street and Lembi Drive. Folsom residents' utilities did not appear to be affected by the crash. Clarin reportedly had flat tires in the accident and ran away. Officers saw Clarin leaving the scene and pursued him, Graham said.

“There was a brief foot pursuit until the suspect began jumping fences in the neighborhood,” he said.

Police set up a perimeter and hired a Sacramento County Sheriff's Office helicopter to assist in the search. Clarin was reportedly found on the 100 block of Diggins Drive and taken safely into custody.

If a suspect is involved in any traffic accident, he or she will be taken to the hospital to receive medical clearance for detention, according to department procedure, Graham said. Clarin was reportedly taken to the hospital, where he remained Thursday morning.

Graham said he faces charges of hit-and-run, driving under the influence, resisting arrest and violating his probation.
