Seattle police have released a 19-year-old from custody just 27 hours after he allegedly stabbed his neighbor on Friday.

On Sept. 16, K'Shawn Konscience Jimerson called 911 and told him he had stabbed someone in self-defense and that he would wait for police “outside with the knife,” reports said Fox News.

The altercation took place at Jimerson's apartment as the victim, 65-year-old veteran Michael Gray, was doing handyman work for him. Doorbell camera footage obtained by the King County Prosecutor's Office shows Jimerson attacking Gray with a wooden object before using a knife.

According to the outlet, Jimerson hit Gray once in the back of the head until he fell to the ground, and then two more times while he was on the ground.

When police arrived at the scene, they found Jimerson covered in blood and holding a butcher knife. Officers also found Gray inside who had suffered multiple stab wounds. He died from his injuries shortly afterwards.

Jimerson was arrested the same day. After his arrest, Jimerson appeared in court before Judge Michelle Gehlsen 27 hours after the incident. Despite the objections of police and the prosecution, which asked for bail of $2 million, Judge Gehlsen set bail at $50,000.

Jimerson posted bail and was released pending further legal action. Since Washington state only requires 10 percent of a bond for release, it's possible Jimerson only paid $5,000. Additionally, Fox News reports that he was sent home without “electronic home monitoring.”

Investigators are actively working on the case by reviewing surveillance footage and obtaining statements from witnesses.
