Suspected gang member charged with attempted murder in Jackson

JACKSON, MI – A Jackson man accused of shooting another man in the chest has been charged with attempted murder.

Tatrell Demarcus Andrew was charged Thursday, Oct. 3, with one felony count each of assault with intent to murder, felony life imprisonment and resisting police.

Andrew, 18, is accused of shooting the 32-year-old around 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at a home in the 200 block of North Bowen Street in Jackson.

During arraignment, prosecutors said the victim was shot at close range by Andrew, who was identified by police as a known gang member in the city.

The man's condition remains stable but critical.

Witnesses told police they saw three men running from the area at the time of the shooting, said Elmer Hitt, Jackson police and fire director.

The three suspects, two adults and a juvenile, were later located and arrested for questioning. Andrew was arrested and taken to the Jackson County Jail. The other two were released.

Andrew is scheduled for a probable cause conference hearing on Oct. 11 before Jackson County District Judge Michael Klaeren. Bail was set at $500,000.

The shooting is still under investigation.
