Andrew Garfield jokes about making documentaries about viral horses

In Garfield's new movie, there was a scene involving a carousel horse with an exaggerated facial expression that went viral and he's capitalizing on the meme.

Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh star in the romantic film We live in time and the trailer was released earlier this year. One of the images released from the film shows a scene of Pugh and Garfield's character on a carousel, with the horse prominently placed next to them in the frame. However, the particular model of horse on the ride features a humorously exaggerated expression. The image went viral because the horse clashed with the rest of the image, and the internet dubbed it the “demon carousel horse.”

The Hollywood Reporter covered movie star Andrew Garfield when he appeared The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to promote We live in time. Garfield explained: “I see this picture and think, 'Maybe I'm the only one who notices this crazy horse.' In a way it feels like we're on his poster. “No, I'm probably oversensitive. 'Nobody else will see.'” Garfield said he saw the image online just before attending a six-day retreat in Northern California where he didn't have his phone with him. He mentions that after returning from the retreat he saw the many viral pictures. β€œI see all the memes that are just like, I cried laughing in the departure hall. So I guess other people noticed.”

Garfield jokingly gave Colbert a T-shirt with the horse's picture on it, and he joked about making a three-part documentary series β€œTo get to the bottom of where the oversight went wrong and why this horse has taken on a life of its own.”

In the trailer, we see Pugh's Almut and Garfield's Tobias have a unique meet-cute, where she hits him with her Mini Cooper, leaving him in the hospital with multiple broken bones and bruises. When she comes to apologize, he immediately turns on his charm and soon the two are madly in love, having a child and juggling her career while she is an aspiring chef. But when Almut receives a threatening diagnosis, time may not be on their side, as the trailer (tearfully) suggests, so both must make the most of the time they have left.
