What is that noise? 5 things you should know about the fighter jets on OC

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA – Can you hear the roar of jets in the sky? The 8th annual Pacific Airshow is back in Huntington Beach, drawing thousands to the Orange County coast to witness the three-day spectacle in the skies.

Here are five things you should know about this year's Pacific Airshow in Huntington Beach.

1. This year's event features an expanded line-up of artists.

The 2024 Pacific Airshow will include performances by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, the U.S. Air Force F-22 Raptor Demonstration Team and the U.S. Air Force A-10 Demo Team. The airshow features a world-first temporary beach landing pad, allowing attendees of this year's show to get up close and personal with five STOL aircraft. According to the Pacific Airshow website, spectators will see non-stop sky-high stunts and high-speed flyovers and take part in “expanded beachfront fun and entertainment.”

2. Residents in the area will hear noise from September 30th.

Residents should expect intermittent aircraft noise from Monday, September 30th to Sunday, October 6th. The Pacific Airshow itself will take place Friday, October 4th through Sunday, October 6th. Pacific Airshow has been asked to contact (714) 536-5985.

3. No drones are permitted near the annual event.

Drones are strictly prohibited within five miles of the 2024 Pacific Airshow, the Huntington Beach Police Department said. According to the air show organizers, “Any items, including drones, that would or could negatively impact public safety or aircraft safety and/or pose an actual or perceived threat are prohibited from the Pacific Airshow.”

4. Nearby residents can see flyovers before the show begins.

According to Pacific Airshow organizers, pilots are intensively preparing for the three-day event. Orange County residents can expect aircraft noise all week long. Organizers say there could be overflights on Thursday.

“Expect an increase in aircraft noise throughout the event week,” organizers wrote on Instagram. “We hope you get a taste of what’s to come this weekend!”
