Kentucky man charged with murder of SIU student in 2021

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KFVS) – A Kentucky man has been charged with the 2021 murder of a Southern Illinois University college student.

According to Jackson County Prosecutor Joseph A. Cervantez, 22-year-old Keavonte T. Nesby of Louisville, Kentucky, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm and one count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon in the death of the SIU -Student Keeshanna Jackson on August 22, 2021.

Cervantez presented evidence before a Jackson County grand jury that Carbondale Police received multiple 911 calls about shots fired outside a large house party at 501 West Cherry Street in Carbondale, Illinois on Sunday, August 22, 2021. were fired.

A total of four victims suffered gunshot wounds. Jackson, who was a freshman at SIU Carbondale, was pronounced deceased at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

Nesby appeared for his initial hearing before a Jackson County district judge on Sept. 4.
