Man arrested for violating mask requirement

A man was arrested for violating Louisville's mask order on Wednesday, and police say it stemmed from a tip. The Louisville Metro Police Department said it received a tip about a man wearing a mask and carrying a “large weapon.” An arrest note states: a A man matching this description was spotted by police in the area of ​​Dixie Highway and Oak Street. According to the arrest document, the man was wearing a black mask that covered his entire face. Police conducted a “reasonable suspicion stop” at 17th Street and Oak Street. They asked the man if he had a weapon, which he said no. An officer then attempted to pat him down, and while doing so, police noticed a gun was in the man's waistband. The man then broke away from the police and ran away. The officers and 24-year-old Frank Childress then fought down 17th Street, where police eventually handcuffed him. The arrest sheet states that Childress damaged an officer's car while they were trying to put him inside. It is also said that Childress attempted to spit on one of the officers during the arrest. LMPD says Childress violated Louisville's mask ordinance, which caused alarm in the community. This came just days after Mayor Craig Greenberg announced that Louisville would begin tightening the ordinance that was put in place in 1983. He is charged with fleeing or evading police, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, criminal mischief, possession of marijuana and menacing.

The man then evaded the police and fled.

A confrontation then broke out between officers and 24-year-old Frank Childress in the middle of 17th Street, and police eventually handcuffed him.

The arrest note states that Childress damaged an officer's car when they tried to put him in it. It is also said that Childress attempted to spit on one of the officers during the arrest.

LMPD says Childress violated Louisville's mask ordinance, which caused concern in the community.

This comes just days after Mayor Craig Greenberg announced that Louisville would begin tightening the ordinance implemented in 1983.
