Cooperation in Bertie County leads to a major drug seizure and an arrest

A Bertie County man was arrested Wednesday, Oct. 3 and is facing multiple drug charges.

According to Bertie County officials, Adrian Jones was arrested following an extensive investigation into illegal drug distribution on Colerain.

A search warrant was executed by the Down East Drug & Violent Task Force, the Bertie County Sheriff's Office and the SBI.

The search warrant at a Rankins St. location resulted in the seizure of the following:

  • 467 grams of marijuana
  • 631 grams of cocaine
  • 11,865.00 US dollars in US currency
  • Semi-automatic pistol

Jones was charged with the following and booked into the Bertie Martin Regional Jail.

  • (F) – Cocaine trafficking

  • (F) – VEHICLE/RESIDENCE/LOCATION maintained for a controlled substance

BINDING:

Bond in the amount of $1,000,000.00.

“The Down East Drug and Violent Crime Task Force is comprised of members from the Ahoskie Police Department, Bertie County Sheriff's Office, Hertford County Sheriff's Office and North Hampton County Sheriff's Office.

Ahoskie Police Chief Michele Garrett said, “Great job with a collaborative effort. This is a prime example that drug distribution does not stop at the county line.” “We will continue to crack down on drugs and violent criminals in our communities.” “We also thank our team leaders for providing resources to our agencies to serve our cities and counties to make it safer.”

Hertford County Sheriff Dexter Hayes states, “This joint action demonstrates our commitment to protecting our communities from the harmful effects of drug trafficking and violent crime.” “We will continue to work together to ensure the safety of our residents and those responsible for criminal offenses bringing activities to justice. “

Northampton County Sheriff Jack Smith states, “It requires law enforcement and community cooperation to do what we can to protect our children and community.” “I want to commend the task force for their hard work.” “This is proof that collaboration works.”

Bertie County Sheriff Tyrone Ruffin stated, “Today was a great day for the community and citizens of Bertie County. I would like to take a moment to express my heartfelt thanks for the interagency cooperation within the Down East Drug and Violent Crime Task Force. Our partnership has been instrumental in improving public safety and addressing the challenges facing our communities.
