Amherst Bulletin – UMass Police are investigating five Peeping Tom incidents on campus

AMHERST — University of Massachusetts police are investigating five reports from residents of two Orchard Hill residence halls about a man who observed and possibly recorded female students showering.

Police issued a warning this week after incidents were reported at Grayson and Field halls on September 16, 17 and 18.

The first report of a peeping tom's behavior came at 11:19 p.m. on Sept. 16 and was treated as an isolated incident, according to police. Then the following day at 3:40 p.m. a second report was received in which a man was seen watching the bathroom shower curtains in the bathroom on the third floor of the Field and possibly attempting to photograph or record them with a cell phone.

The third report, received at 2:22 a.m. on Sept. 18 about an incident on the seventh floor of the Grayson Building, provided police with a description of the suspect as a college-aged white male, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, with short legs brownish-brown hair. blonde hair, wearing maroon shorts and a black hooded sweatshirt.

All three reports indicate that the group had a cell phone that they used to take photos or videos.

After crime alerts were posted at the Grayson and Field buildings, two additional incidents involving the same behavior occurred, one occurring on the sixth floor of the Field at 1 a.m. on September 17, and the other at 1 a.m. on September 18 on the fifth floor floor at Grayson.

Residents of campus residence halls are encouraged to report similar suspicious behavior to police. Anyone with further information can contact police at 545-2121.
