Long Island man charged with murder of mother, 85: Police

ROOSEVELT, N.Y. — A Roosevelt man was arrested Wednesday after he was accused of fatally wounding his mother in September, Nassau police said. Charges will also be filed against the woman's daughter, police said.

Officers were called to a home in Roosevelt around 2:40 p.m. on Sept. 12 to conduct a wellness check on Carmel McDougall, 85, police said. Officers found McDougall unresponsive and took her to a nearby hospital, where she died on Sept. 18, police said.

McDougall's son, Michael Rainford McDougall, 65, of Roosevelt, was accused of causing the injuries that led to his mother's death and was arrested Wednesday, police said.

The woman's daughter, Nichole McDougall Mullings, 55, of Roosevelt, was also arrested in connection with other abusive acts on Aug. 30, police said.

Michael Rainford McDougall was charged with second-degree manslaughter.

Nichole McDougall Mullings was charged with first-degree endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person.

Both siblings were arraigned Thursday in First District Court, 99 Main St., Hempstead.
