Former makeup artist Garth Brooks sued for rape and sexual assault

A hairdresser and makeup artist who worked for Garth Brooks has filed a lawsuit against the country icon, accusing him of sexual assault and battery.

According to documents obtained by PEOPLE, the plaintiff filed the lawsuit in California state court on October 3 as “Jane Roe.” Brooks had previously denied the claims in a complaint filed under “John Doe,” with the intent of preventing publication of her claims, the complaint says.

In the complaint, Roe accuses Brooks, 62, of raping her, exposing his genitals and buttocks, talking openly about sex and related fantasies, changing clothes in her presence and sending sexually explicit text messages, each incident unfolding over the course of her time of the year 2019.

A representative and attorney for Brooks did not respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.

Roe claims she began working for Brooks' wife, Trisha Yearwood, in 1999 and was hired to do makeup and hair for the “Friends in Low Places” singer in 2017, according to the documents; Two years later, Roe claims he became aware of Roe's “financial difficulties” in 2019 and began hiring her more frequently.

According to the complaint, “Brooks soon seized the opportunity to expose a female employee to a side of Brooks that he was hiding from the public. This side of Brooks believes he is entitled to sexual satisfaction when he wants it, and “using a female employee to get it is fair game.”

On one occasion in 2019, according to the documents, Roe was ready to do Brooks' hair and makeup when he allegedly emerged from the shower “naked, with an erection,” placed Roe's hands on his penis and expressed a desire for her to Doing “oral performances” was supposed to have sex with him. She claims she didn't get involved but stayed to complete her work.

Before the May 2019 recording of a Grammy tribute to Sam Moore at which Brooks performed, Roe alleges in her complaint that she and the “Callin' Baton Rouge” actor traveled alone on his private jet to Los Angeles, where “usually others were”.

Then, Roe claims, she was surprised to learn that Brooks had booked a one-bedroom hotel suite for both of them. Later, Brooks allegedly showed her his “completely naked” body in the hotel room while flexing his muscles.

Roe claims Brooks raped her in the hotel suite and she “couldn't escape his physical dominance” because they had a big height difference. According to the documents, the experience was “painful and traumatic.”

“With cold disregard for Ms. Roe, everything continued as usual when Brooks finished. Ms. Roe worked quickly to style his hair and do his makeup for the event so he would be on time,” her legal team wrote. She also noticed that she had neck and back pain afterwards.

After the alleged sexual assault, Brooks “expressed his sexual fantasies about her more frequently and fondled her breasts while she did his hair and makeup,” according to the complaint.

Roe also accuses Brooks of previously having sex in hotel rooms with various women of different races. He also asked her to have a “threesome” with Yearwood, the documents say, and Roe believes the “She's in Love with the Boy” musician overheard his comments at least once.

On another occasion in October 2019, according to the complaint, Roe claims that Brooks tried to rape her again but had to leave because of another engagement.

Roe claims Yearwood, 60, was present at a conversation in May 2020 where Brooks made comments about “inventing a shampoo bottle that could double as a dildo,” after which Roe texted him to express her discomfort .

That same year, Roe claimed to have been upset after Brooks told Yearwood she had seen his penis and sent him a text saying she had “overthought” the scenario.

A representative for Yearwood did not respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.

She then tried to get Brooks to agree that they would no longer engage in sexual contact in order to continue working together, the documents say. Brooks reportedly said they should “just hope no one ever finds out and just love each other and be friends.”

Roe claims they had conversations about whether or not they would continue to work together, but Brooks insisted that they are “working together forever.”

According to the documents, Brooks allegedly took Roe's phone at a work event in 2020 and “deleted most of the text messages he had sent her that contained explicit sexual content.”

According to the complaint, Roe stopped working for Brooks and moved to Mississippi around May 2021.

Recently, Roe's complaint states, Brooks' legal team learned of their plans to file a complaint, and so on September 13, he initially filed a preemptive action as “John Doe,” alleging that Roe “was a lying extortionist, who intended to destroy his property.” professional reputation.

John Doe’s complaint states: “[Roe’s] Claims are not true. [Roe] However, is aware of the significant, irreparable harm that such false allegations would cause to the plaintiff's well-deserved reputation as a decent and caring human being, along with the inevitable harm to his family and the irreparable harm to his career and livelihood that would result would if she carried out her threat and filed her made-up lawsuit “publicly.” In fact, this knowledge undoubtedly explains why [Roe] threatened to file a lawsuit through a “confidential” letter of demand rather than simply filing a lawsuit to redress her alleged (but untrue) injuries.”
