Man accused of carjacking in 2022 nearly two years later behind bars in Kansas

OTTAWA, Kan. (KCTV) – The man accused of holding down a 79-year-old before beating him and stealing his vehicle is behind bars in Kansas nearly two years later.

Ottawa, Kansas police say officers arrested Noah J. Oates, 22, of Udall on Tuesday, October 1, in connection with a 2022 incident.

On September 16, 2022, first responders said they were called to the area of ​​13th and S. Beech St., a block from Ottawa Middle School, with reports of a robbery in progress. When they arrived, they discovered Oates had held a 79-year-old man at a gun, assaulted him and stolen his vehicle.

Later in 2022, court documents revealed that Oates was arrested in Jasper, Alabama. Kansas law enforcement officers traveled to Alabama to work with locals and collect more evidence.

On Tuesday, Oates was transported back to Ottawa, where he was booked into the Franklin County Jail on charges of aggravated robbery, aggravated assault, theft, criminal restraint and criminal possession of a firearm.
