1 man died in “use of force” incident; TX Rangers, police are investigating

TEMPLE, Texas (KXXV) – The Texas Rangers and the Temple Police Department are investigating an incident that occurred around noon on Wednesday that resulted in the death of a suspect.

Officers were dispatched to the 2400 block of South 13th Street regarding a welfare issue. The caller said that someone had vandalized his home and that the confrontation was physical due to the influence of narcotics.

The suspect in this incident exhibited dangerous and life-threatening behavior in this situation and did not obey police orders or stop his actions.

After being tasered several times by Temple police, arguing with officers and failing to comply with commands or instructions, the suspect went limp and officers said he became unconscious.

Police turned the suspect on his side and “continued to attempt to wake the suspect by rubbing his sternum” and called emergency medical services.

Officers said the person stopped breathing at about 12:23 p.m. and began life-saving treatment – initiating CPR and using Narcan.

“The caller told officers on scene that the suspect explained to the caller that he had spent the caller's money to purchase crack cocaine before returning to the residence and exhibiting strange and unusual behavior “I laid the day,” the police said.

“The caller further stated that he attempted to forcibly evict the individual from their residence before calling the police.”

Authorities said the time of death was 12:59 p.m. – an autopsy was ordered.

Local authorities have launched an internal investigation to fully clarify the incident.

This is an ongoing investigation and no further information will be released at this time.
