Falcons' Raheem Morris has a message after Kyle Pitts' zero-catch game: 'Statistics are for losers'

Thanks to a last-second win over the New Orleans Saints, in which Younghoe Koo hit a 58-yard field goal with two seconds left, the Atlanta Falcons moved to 2-2 on the season. While the Falcons were on the winning side in this division game, tight end Kyle Pitts was conspicuously missing from the statistics. Despite scoring three goals in Week 4, Pitts was unable to catch the game, continuing his quiet start to the season.

Going into the season, there was optimism that Pitts would take a step in his development and live up to his first-round draft target when he was the No. 4 overall pick in 2021. This zero-catch effort – the first time in his entire career that he went without a catch – represents a new low in that regard, but head coach Raheem Morris doesn't seem to mind.

“It was just about going out and winning the game,” Morris said when asked about Pitts' zero-catch game. β€œTo me, stats are really for losers, man. I'm not getting involved in this. You go out there and try to win every game and we were able to win it today.”

In four games this season, Pitts has eight catches on 15 targets for 105 yards and a touchdown. If you extrapolate that performance to a full 17-game season, the 23-year-old would be looking at a season in which he finishes with 34 catches, 446 yards and four touchdowns. Without Pitts' 2022 season, in which he played in just 10 games, these stats would be career lows in receptions and receiving yards. His 26.3 yards per game is also on pace to reach a career low, even including the 2022 season.

While it may not matter much in a win, Pitts' lack of production in this game likely would have been a much bigger storyline if Koo's kick had traveled wide left or right.
