Evacuations have been lifted after a natural gas leak in Cannon Beach

CANNON BEACH Ore. (KPTV) – A natural gas leak was discovered in Cannon Beach on Thursday, prompting evacuations.

The gas leak was located in the 100 block of Sunset Boulevard. After the gas concentration was confirmed, people were evacuated from the 100-foot-wide area around the building.

The leak was discovered around 1:30 p.m. when the Cannon Beach Fire Department was alerted to a natural gas leak.

When emergency services arrived, they found a one-story house with the smell of natural gas coming from it.

Northwest Natural Gas responded around 2:30 p.m. to locate the source of the leak, which was near the kitchen in the home. The gas meter was found and secured.

The house was then ventilated and the evacuation was lifted.

The scene of the accident was cleared around 3 p.m. and no injuries or property damage were reported.
