Man accused of stealing an ambulance to get to court on car theft charges

Talk about making things worse.

An Oklahoma man is behind bars for allegedly stealing an ambulance after he couldn't get a ride to a court hearing where he was already facing car theft charges.

Kody Adams was at a gas station in Stillwater asking people for a ride to his court appearance in Pawnee County — where he is charged with possession of a stolen vehicle — when he jumped into an unoccupied LifeNet ambulance that was still operating, according to Oklahoma Highway Police.

“You don’t see this every day,” the agency joked in a Sept. 27 Facebook post.

The stupid car thief took the ambulance for a 30-minute joyride to the courthouse and then abandoned the vehicle before being arrested upon entering the courthouse.

Authorities said the truck was running and unoccupied at the time of the theft. KOCO 5

“First responders had an idea of where this vehicle might be,” Trooper Preston Cox told KOCO News.

Adams was arrested after he admitted to simply “borrowing” the truck, authorities said.
