A neighbor's video shows a high-speed crash that killed two men and injured two officers: 'Senseless'

Two officers were injured and two other men were killed in a tragic car accident in Warren on Monday morning.

Days later, debris remains on the lawn and sidewalk where it happened. People in the area say they are still in shock and cannot believe what they saw on the video.

Leitton: “Officers involved in an accident. It will be Schoenherr and Sherman.”

“I witnessed this accident and it really hurt me to see it,” said a witness. “When I first looked at it to see how fast the car was going.”

The accident occurred at the intersection of Schoenherr and Prospect after a Warren police vehicle and a Dodge Durango collided.

“I woke up around 4:30 a.m., went to the bathroom and heard a loud explosion that shook my house,” said another witness.

What shook the house was also captured on security video.

“When I got here the truck had already tipped over,” she said.

According to the Warren Police Department, two officers were critically injured in the accident.

Send audio: “Yes, we need paramedics.”

They say an officer underwent surgery. Both are expected to be fine.

The owner of the video says he's stunned when he asks about the police lights – and asks if they're on.

“That is the central issue,” he said. “If he had seen the lights he would never have turned around to face the police. So they appear to have been going at least 80, 90 miles per hour.”

Accident victims: 34-year-old Cedric Hayden and 33-year-old DeJuan Pettis.

The men in the other vehicle — 34-year-old Cedric Hayden and 33-year-old DeJuan Pettis — died.

Neighbors hope justice will be served.

“I shed a few tears because you know it's pointless,” said the owner of the video. “And they, you know, don’t deserve to leave this earth to the law.”

The investigation was turned over from Warren police to the Macomb County Sheriff's Office.

A spokesman declined to be interviewed but said there was nothing new to report on the case and that more information would be released in due course.
