Three Arrested: Suspects Arrested for Involvement in Marietta Shooting Sept. 28 | News, sports, jobs

Three people have been arrested for their involvement in a Sept. 28 shooting in Marietta that left a woman with facial injuries.

Kylar Wilson, 20, of Marietta, was arrested Tuesday by the Marietta Police Department on a charge of attempted first-degree murder. Ashton Dugan, 20, and Brendon Pierce, 18, both of Parkersburg, were arrested Wednesday by Parkersburg police on charges of attempted aggravated assault, a third-degree felony count of tampering with evidence and a second-degree misdemeanor, according to Marietta Police Chief Katie Warden. they hinder official business.

“We were able to determine that Mr. Wilson is the one who shot the woman,” said the overseer.

Wilson, who lives at 725 1/2 Front St., Marietta, was arraigned Wednesday in Marietta Municipal Court, according to court records, and the Washington County Jail website shows him there.

Pierce and Dugan, who live at 3109 Elm St., Parkersburg and 1046 Laird Ave., Parkersburg, respectively, were arraigned Wednesday in Wood County Magistrate Court, according to court records.

The North Central Regional Jail website does not show Dugan or Pierce there, but Warden said they should be in the jail or will be transferred there soon.

On the night of the shooting, two of the suspects were stopped but not arrested.

A vehicle carrying Pierce and Dugan was stopped in Parkersburg on September 28, but they were not arrested “At this point, we did not have sufficient probable cause to make an arrest.” said the overseer.

Not all suspects involved in the shooting have been arrested.

“This was a four-person shooting.” said the overseer. “We have identified the fourth person. The entire incident is still under investigation. We had probable cause to arrest three of the four (people).”

The warden said there would be no danger to the public if the fourth person involved in the shooting was not arrested.

She doesn't have a date for when charges will be filed against the person; The decision rests with the Washington County District Attorney's Office. She was unable to provide a timetable for the arrest of the fourth suspect.

Marietta police found 38 shell casings at the scene and evidence is still being sent to labs, Warden said.

She said the investigation into the shooting could not be completed within 24 hours given the amount of people and gunfire involved.

Marietta police responded to a call at Fourth and Putnam streets at 12:55 a.m. Sept. 28 when they heard numerous gunshots downtown. So she responded to the parking lot of Advanced Auto Parts at 200 Greene St. and found a passerby had been shot in the face but was still conscious.

“The crime scene was chaotic…we were able to stabilize the scene until we could get investigators on scene.” said the overseer.

She said in the 25 years she has been a police officer, she has never seen as many gunshots as occurred during the shooting.

“It’s extremely unusual” said the overseer.

Marietta police don't know if the four shooters were trying to hit the woman or if she was in the wrong palace at the wrong time.

“We’re still trying to put this together.” said the overseer.

According to police, the victim was taken to the hospital the night of the shooting and has since been released.

“She’s doing really well.” said the overseer.

Warden said Marietta police will not release the victim's name, information about the motive for the shooting or information about the weapons at this time. She confirmed that the weapons used in the shooting were handguns and that four of them were involved.

She said the shooting is not believed to be gang-related and none of the suspects have any ties to a gang.

According to the Marietta Municipal Court website, Wilson has a bond hearing scheduled for Oct. 7 at 1 p.m. and a preliminary hearing for Oct. 9 at 1 p.m.

Dugan and Pierce's cases have been transferred to Wood County Circuit Court and no further information about their cases is available at this time.
