Avid motorcyclist Elijah Long died in hit-and-run in Lynwood, family seeks answers

LYNWOOD, Calif. (KABC) — The search is underway for the driver who caused a fatal hit-and-run crash in Lynwood last week.

Elijah Long was killed after a car swerved in front of his motorcycle, and now his family is searching for answers – hoping the driver will come forward.

“Instead of stopping to help my brother, the vehicle simply left him on the road. And we just want answers and we want these people to come forward,” said Cristina Long, Elijah’s sister.

Cristina told ABC7 that Elijah was on his way home from the food bank. A loaf of bread and a can of corn were found on the road. His family still collects the parts of his motorcycle from the street.

“He was an avid cyclist, he rode his motorcycle every day. He loved to ride his bike,” Cristina said.

Messages of tribute poured in with the words “ride in paradise” and “thanks for that hug, it felt like a lifetime.”

“I just wish he was here, I wish he was here to give me such a big hug,” said another sister, Lizzy Long.

Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies said they were in the early stages of investigating the fatal crash that occurred around 9:20 a.m. at Atlantic Avenue and Arlington

Pink and blue flowers hang at the base of a telephone pole, which also has a flyer attached to it seeking witnesses or video of the fatal crash.

“We’re still going to fight him because if one of us were in his place, that’s what he would do. He wouldn't stop. He would keep going because that was the type of person he was,” he told Cristina.

A candlelight vigil was held Thursday evening in Elijah's honor at the intersection of Arlington and Atlantic.
