Silent Hill 2 video review

Silent Hill 2 reviewed by Tristan Ogilvie on PlayStation 5. Also available for PC.

“Silent Hill 2 is a welcome modernization of a survival horror masterpiece. It gently polishes off the rough edges of the original game's battle scenes, while using a piece of heavy sandpaper to successfully sand away every rust and mold-covered surface of its nightmarish environments.” This made them seem far more aggressive and threatening to explore. Previous, primitive boss fights were transformed into much more intense encounters, and the intimidating audio design sharply alerted me to the fact that any fog-shrouded street I walked down could quickly lead me to my own deaths. The ending feels a bit overstuffed in parts, and I Wish Bloober Team had streamlined some of its more complicated puzzle sections to prevent the story's momentum from occasionally flagging, but Silent Hill 2 is a great way to visit one of the scariest destinations in survival horror history – or to visit again.”
