6 injured in two-vehicle collision on south side

A 19-year-old man was killed and several people were injured on Tucson's south side early Saturday, according to police.

Shortly before 2:30 a.m., a gray 2007 Chevrolet Silverado speeding south on the main road of Interstate 10 struck a white 2024 Kia ​​Niro that had just turned onto the main road from West Silverlake Road, Tucson police said in a news release.

The collision caused the pickup to skid. One of six people in the pickup, Risten Lee Robinson, later died at the hospital, the release said.

The five other people in the truck suffered injuries of varying severity.

The unidentified Kia driver suffered minor injuries and her passenger was uninjured, the release said.

Excessive speed and impaired driving behavior by the driver of the Silverado were the main causes of the accident, the press release states.
