Discovery of TikTok's viral tapestry takes a frightening turn with police and cadaver dogs

What started as a simple backyard fence project Columbus resident Katie Santry has become a viral mystery, with millions of viewers watching as she discovers a buried rug — and possibly something far more sinister.

What seemed like a harmless joke about a body wrapped in carpet has expanded into a large-scale investigation involving police, cadaver dogs and internet speculation.

Santry and her boyfriend Brandon were digging up their yard to install a fence when they came across an old carpet buried deep in the ground.

Although it was strange at first, they didn't think much of it. But shortly after the discovery, bizarre things began to happen in Santry's home: her computer screen mysteriously shattered and items on her desk appeared to have been displaced.

Santry then took to TikTok to share her experience, jokingly asking if the “ghost” of the carpet was behind the strange occurrences.

@katiesantry Reply to @ɱεℓ ɓ that's it. At first I really thought that things were about to get crazy, but after calling his boss, they concluded that they couldn't put resources into something unknown. This is the end of the story and everything that is in this carpet remains there. Now back to our regular program.🙃 ##hauntedtiktok##hauntedhouse##rug ♬ Original sound – Katie Santry

The video quickly went viral, was viewed millions of times and sparked a wave of curiosity. Commenters urged Santry to call the police, prompting her to make what she called a “bizarre” call and ask authorities to investigate a buried carpet.

When officers arrived, they saw nothing unusual and left. However, after further research (both literal and virtual) and Santry's TikTok audience became more interested, she received a surprise call from the Columbus Police Department's Homicide Unit. They wanted to bring cadaver dogs to search the property.

During the search, both dogs drew attention to the area where the carpet was located.

The dog then sat until everything was taped off. And now we wait until the forensics arrive tomorrow. I'm still hoping that maybe someone just had a bloody nose on a carpet and buried it.

For this reason, the police have now cordoned off the property and plan to remain there overnight. The investigation is expected to continue Friday morning, with crime scene investigators returning to conduct a more thorough examination of the location.

Santry, who watched the dogs' discovery via livestream, seemed genuinely overwhelmed by the situation, especially since over 100,000 people were watching the events unfold. “I never thought this would happen,” she said. During the livestream, Santry was visibly shaking and when the dogs alerted, she let out an audible gasp.

What started as a humorous TikTok post has now evolved into something much more serious.

With the property cordoned off and police planning a nighttime presence, Santry's backyard mystery has become a topic of national interest, leaving followers and neighbors alike wondering: What could be buried in her yard?

The police are currently remaining silent about the investigation and only state that there are “no conclusive findings yet”. However, with Crime Scene Investigators set to return soon, all eyes are on Santry's TikTok.
