Iga Swiatek: WTA number one separates from coach Tomasz Wiktorowski after three years

Russell Fuller, BBC tennis correspondent:

Swiatek says the opportunity to spend more time at home after three years on the road is welcome for Wiktorowski, and also points out that this is the right time for her to work with a non-Polish coach.

Piotr Sierzputowski accompanied her through most of her teenage years, with Swiatek noting in the past that she felt more comfortable when surrounded by people with whom she shared a language and culture.

Unusually, it has now been four months since the world number one won a title. She hasn't played since her loss to Jessica Pegula in the quarterfinals of the US Open, missed this week's China Open for personal reasons and won't play in Wuhan next week “after an important change in my team.”

Swiatek has frequently criticized the tournament's rigidity and the increase in mandatory tournaments on the WTA Tour.

She has already decided not to represent Poland in the Billie Jean King Cup final – leaving next month's WTA Finals potentially her only appearance before the end of the year.
