Egypt is following the shooting incident in Mexico that left Egyptian nationals dead

CAIRO – October 4, 2024: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs is investigating the circumstances of the recent shooting in Mexico that left several Egyptian citizens dead.

Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, the ministry's official spokesman, explained that Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, has instructed the consular sector and the Egyptian Embassy in Mexico to closely monitor the situation and communicate with the Mexican authorities to resolve the issue Details to be clarified incident.

Mexican military troops opened fire on a van carrying 33 migrants, killing six migrants, including three Egyptians, one from Peru and one from Honduras, while the sixth migrant is still unknown. The shooting occurred on Tuesday in the southern state of Chiapas, Reuters and AP reported.

New Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum condemned the murder and called for an investigation to be opened. Reuters reported on Thursday that Mexican authorities had arrested the police officers who opened fire on the migrants.
