A Southside Chicago resident believes Trump is gaining support

A South Chicago resident told Fox News Digital on Wednesday that many voters in his neighborhood support former President Trump.

“I think a lot of people in my neighborhood are honestly on the side of Trump,” said Eric Boyds, a South Side Chicago native and Trump supporter.

“I think he just has a way of connecting with our people,” he added.

The South Side of Chicago is predominantly black. According to the city's census data, about 75% of the population is Black and 19% is Hispanic.

“A lot of the people I talk to on the South Side are kind of…leaning toward Trump,” Demetrius told Fox News Digital.

Demetrius explained that the growing support for Trump among South Side Chicago residents was due to the former president's help to “people living in poverty.”

“To those people – his contributions, I think, have really helped them a little bit… he's helped change the economy for them right now,” he said, before revealing that he would support Vice President Kamala Harris.

“In my opinion, I cannot agree with this,” he said.

On the other hand, other residents of Chicago's South Side said everyone she knows is “into Kamala.”

“I don’t think anyone I know would vote for Trump,” Brittany said.

Trump lost Illinois to President Biden by 17 points in the 2020 election. Chicago overwhelmingly went for Biden, with him winning over 90% in some districts.

Fox News' latest national poll shows Harris topping Trump by two points.

Trump was ahead by a point last month, while Harris is ahead by 2 points today: 50% to 48%. To illustrate: In July, Trump had a one-point lead over President Biden. Each of these differences is within the margin of error.

Quentin, a Harris supporter, said the Democratic candidate has “gained a lot of ground in the last week” among residents of Chicago's suburbs and South Side neighborhoods.

“I think she's looking a little stronger right now – just the way she answers the questions – the way she responds to people… she shows that she can be a trustworthy candidate.”

Emmanuel said he leans more toward Trump.

“Trump helped people the most when he was in office,” he said. “That’s just the honest truth.”

Ben, who lived in Chicago for four years, said he was leaning toward Kamala. He added that Trump seemed too old.

“Just not someone I’m too crazy for or too excited about taking office,” Ben said.
