HOWARD COUNTY – A former Taylor Community School Corporation employee and basketball coach has been arrested. Randy “Scott” Sullivan, 49, was arrested for texting inappropriate photos and videos to one of his student-athletes.

The Howard County Sheriff's Office investigated on September 25 after discovering these inappropriate texts from Sullivan.

The victim was cared for by Sullivan and Sullivan drove the student to practices and events, initially appearing generous. However, the situation escalated and the victim claimed to have repeatedly rebuffed Sullivan's advances. Sullivan confiscated the victim's phone, threatened self-harm if it was revealed, displayed jealousy, and provided the minor with e-cigarettes.

Sullivan disappeared, leaving behind an apology note that raised suicidal concerns. After his return, the authorities obtained an arrest warrant. Sullivan was booked into the Howard County Jail on Thursday evening where he faced a $50,000 bond and multiple felony charges, including child solicitation, sexual assault and distribution of harmful content to minors.

Taylor School Corporation Superintendent Steve Dishon spoke with the school district and confirmed Sullivan's termination. The district banned Sullivan from all school buildings and events. Dishon said Sullivan has been denied access to students since his arrest.

The school district is reevaluating its policies regarding staff and coaches. They also plan to teach students how to recognize and report grooming behaviors. Administration has scheduled meetings with parents to discuss enhanced safety measures and welcomes community input to improve existing protocols.

This case has deeply shocked the local community and prompted concerted efforts to prevent future incidents and protect vulnerable students. The school district's proactive approach aims to restore trust and ensure a safer environment for all future students.

A Facebook post from Taylor Community School Corporation said a meeting would be held where parents could learn about plans to ensure the safety of the school and students. This happens early Friday around 8am to 9am and Friday afternoon around 4pm to 5pm.
