NTSB releases preliminary report on Teutopolis anhydrous incident

Teutopolis, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The NTSB has released preliminary reports on its investigation into the Teutopolis anhydrous ammonia incident a year ago.

On September 29, 2023, a vehicle attempted to pass a semi-truck containing anhydrous ammonia. As the vehicle passed the semi-trailer, another vehicle came towards it and the driver of the semi-trailer veered to the right of the road to avoid a head-on collision. Then the semi-truck flipped over and ammonia began pouring out of the tanker.

In this incident, five residents died and 11 others were injured. A large part of Teutopolis was evacuated as the toxic ammonia cloud spread across the city.

The final report is not yet ready, but the NTSB has released preliminary reports and transcripts of interviews with those involved in the accident. The reports and interviews can be found here: https://data.ntsb.gov/Docket/?NTSBNumber=HWY23MH017.
