Shailene Woodley recently appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show where she discussed her latest limited series, Three Women, in which she plays the character of Gia. Additionally, while promoting her series, she also recalled the sage advice she received about navigating Hollywood from her “Divergent” co-star Kate Winslet early in her career.

Woodley began by expressing that she feels fortunate to have had people who showed up in her life in a real, “truthful and pure way” from a young age. Barrymore then asked the actress, “Was Kate Winslet actually someone who was a good sounding board for you?” To which she replied, “Beyond that. I mean, guys, she's like, not to overuse the word, but she's just real,” adding that Winslet is who she is and isn't afraid to be who she is , and that the actress did the hard work.

Barrymore added that she recently read a quote from Winslet that resonated with her, in which the Lee actress expressed that she wished she had the same “courage and confidence” that she has now wife.

The Blended actress continued reading her quote: “When I came out as a young girl in the Titanic, men in particular commented on my body shape and size, saying that I didn't allow that at all and I was right to shut it down” there and then.' And I think, “Wow.”

Shailene Woodley then shared that the cool thing about Winslet is that while she didn't take the same approach for herself, “she did it for me.” Woodley explained that when they worked together, she was 21 years old and struggling with the pressures of public life, where people were constantly telling her how she should look and act, what she should eat, or even change her hair color .

She recalled Winslet “sitting her down, holding her shoulders” and telling her, “No, no, no, that's not you. That's the truth.” t – without it I wouldn't be who I am today.
