A windy first fall storm brings rain and a 15-degree drop in temperatures to western Washington

I hope you enjoyed the warm weather on Tuesday as an autumnal cold front is approaching.

There will be showers on some roads Wednesday morning for the morning commute. It wouldn't be a bad idea to allow a little extra time to get to work on Wednesday.

By Wednesday morning the showers will become more numerous and there will be heavier rain, and there will even be some thunderstorms in the afternoon.

There will be lingering showers on some highways during the drive home on Wednesday, but activity will ease as the evening progresses.

More than 0.25 inches of rain could fall in some Seattle neighborhoods by the end of Wednesday. Parts of the Olympic Peninsula and the Cascades can expect even higher amounts of rain, with some areas receiving more than an inch of rain.

As the rain passes, wind gusts of up to 20 miles per hour or more may occur. With wind, rain and a drop into the high 50s/low 60s, Wednesday afternoon will feel harsh compared to Tuesday's warm weather.

Western Washington can expect a break in rain Thursday, with a weaker system and some light rain Thursday night into Friday morning.

This weekend it will be quieter, but also quite cool! Morning temperatures will be in the 40s. Say hello to fall!
