Arrested in September. Shooting incident

FREEPORT — Freeport police announced they had arrested a suspect in a triple shooting on a city street late last month.

In a statement, police said they arrested Raymond E. Adams, 40, of Freeport, at a home in the 400 block of W. Clark Street on a warrant stemming from a shooting incident on Sept. 25, 2024 in the 900 block Block of S. Carroll Avenue.

“Raymond Adams was taken to the Stephenson County Jail where he was served with a copy of the warrant and criminal complaint charging Adams with two (2) counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, two (2) counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm became. and two (2) counts of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon,” the police statement said. “Adams was processed at the Stephenson County Jail and released into the custody of the Stephenson County Sheriff’s Office.”

According to court records, Adams remains in custody.

On Sept. 25, around 1:30 p.m., police say they were called to a location on South Carroll Avenue for a shots fired incident. When officers arrived, they found two victims. Meanwhile, a third victim was taken to FHN Hospital in a private vehicle.

The victims were in their late 40s and early 50s. Police did not release the condition of the victims, although one of them was transferred to a hospital in Rockford.

The defendant has an extensive criminal history in Illinois that includes multiple felonies, including a 2004 unlawful possession of a handgun and a 2017 conviction for aggravated domestic assault/strangulation.
