Devils vs. Sabers NHL Global Series Predictions and Tips (10/4)

Both clubs are looking to get off to a successful start in the 2024-25 NHL season after failing to make the playoffs last spring. Due to injuries, the Devils finished seventh in the Metropolitan Division with a record of 38-39-5 (81 points), while the Sabers were the sixth-place Atlantic team with a record of 39-37-6 and were making the playoffs for the 13th time missed in a row.

In the games between these teams, the Devils had a slight edge. They won the first two games and outscored the Sabers 12-6 overall before the latter earned a 5-2 home win on March 29. However, New Jersey is still 7-3 SU in its last ten meetings with Buffalo. shows how one-sided this series was.

The Devils will also likely have the advantage on special teams this afternoon. They finished the 2023-24 season ranked 13th in the power play and 10th in the penalty kill, while the Sabers ranked 29th and 13th in those respects, respectively.

Devils vs. Sabers NHL Predictions, Odds and Tips for the Global Series (10/4)Can the Sabers figure out how to solve the Devils' special forces?

All eyes will be on Devils goaltender Jacob Markstrom, who makes his team debut after being signed this offseason. The veteran goaltender and former Vezina Trophy finalist played well for the Calgary Flames last year, posting a 23-23-2 record with a .905 save percentage, 2.78 goals against average and two shutouts.

Unfortunately for Markstrom, the Devils' backline is shorthanded today with Luke Hughes and Brett Pesce both out with injuries. In other words, it is up to the forward group to lead the attack.

Meanwhile, the Sabers are likely to rely on Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen in goal. The 25-year-old Finnish puckstopper is coming off his best NHL season, going 27-22-4 and posting a .910 SV%, 2.57 GAA and five shutouts in 54 appearances highest of his career.

Predictions, odds and NHL tips for Sabers vs. Devils todayHow will Sabers G Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen fare after his breakout season?

While the Sabers are certainly promising this season, I am I'm going with the Devils this afternoon. New Jersey has its best players back, barring a few absences, and Markstrom's presence in goal should improve the team as a whole. The Sabers will apply pressure at times throughout the match, but since the Devils are the slightly better team overall, they will come out on top.

As for the best choice, I'll keep things simple by taking this Devil on the money line because there is a decent value behind a odds of -138.

Best Sabers vs. Devils player support (10/4)

After seeing what BetOnline has to offer, I agree Jack Hughes 5+ shots on goal (+119) for the best player in the Sabers vs. Devils NHL Global Series.

Hughes excelled offensively last season, averaging 4.4 career shots on goal in 62 games. The former 2019 first overall pick hit more than five shots on 25 of those occasions, two of which came against the Sabres. In fact, in his last seven road games against Buffalo, Hughes averaged 5.3 SOG while finishing 4-3 over, and never finished those games with fewer than four shots.

As one of the best players in the NHL today, I trust this choice from Hughes.
