Heavy traffic on I-290 in Worcester after serious accident

Motorists were asked to avoid the east side of Interstate 290 in Worcester Friday afternoon after a serious crash. Worcester police said the accident occurred between Hope Avenue and Kelley Square. 5 Alert Traffic shows heavy congestion extending back to the Mass Pike. Sky5 flew over the area and saw several damaged vehicles. One car had visible damage on three sides and was stopped on the center line facing oncoming traffic. Some debris could also be seen on the road. The police did not initially say how many vehicles were involved or whether there were any injuries.
