Lima man offered attempted murder settlement

LIMA — A Lima man was offered a plea deal Friday in Allen County Common Pleas Court that expires Oct. 11 on a charge of attempted murder, a first-degree felony.

Prosecutors offered 26-year-old Daniel Elliott five years in prison on the charge, but his attorney, Stephen Chamberlain of the Allen County Public Defenders Office, said Elliott still wanted to go to trial. A jury trial is scheduled to begin on November 5th.

The charges in this case stem from events that occurred on March 20th. Court documents allege that Elliott called local police to investigate an Illinois woman because she had been poisoned by consuming bleach a few days earlier. He then called Illinois police and told them that he and others had tried to get the woman to drink a poisonous concoction, claiming it was alcohol or medication. When asked by police, the woman said she only drank a sip.

Elliott reportedly told police he gave the woman the concoction because he was angry about her mistreatment of her children and feared for her safety.
