Teen Arrested for Murder of 2-Year-Old in Federal Way IHOP Parking Lot – KIRO 7 News Seattle

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – Federal Way police say they arrested a 17-year-old boy this week for the murder of a 2-year-old who was shot in the parking lot of an IHOP.

The teen was arrested at his Federal Way home six months after the fatal shooting.

“This was a heartbreaking case for our entire community and we are grateful for law enforcement's tireless efforts to bring this suspect to justice. “We will not tolerate violence that endangers our children and we remain fully committed to doing so “To make Federal Way a safer place for everyone.” Federal Way Mayor Jim Ferrell said in a press release.

In April, officers were called to the parking lot of the restaurant on Southwest Campus Drive just before 10 a.m. after someone heard gunshots.

The police assume that the child was caught in the crossfire of two people.

A short time later, police received a call from St. Francis Hospital reporting that a two-year-old had arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound.

According to police, the child was taken to Harborview Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.

On Wednesday, the teen was booked into the King County Children and Family Justice Center on a first-degree murder charge, and police expect the King County District Attorney's Office will charge him as an adult.
