19-year-old woman dead in head-on crash in Montcalm County

MONTCALM COUNTY, Mich. (WPBN/WGTU) — A 19-year-old Greenville woman is dead and two men and a 15-year-old boy were injured after a head-on crash in Montcalm County.

Officers were dispatched at 10 p.m. Thursday to a report of an accident on South Sheridan Road near West Boyer Street in Fairplain Township.

A 2008 Audi driven by a 25-year-old West Bloomfield man was traveling north on South Sheridan Road when he attempted to pass another vehicle, the Montcalm County Sheriff's Office said a Facebook post.

While attempting to pass the vehicle, the Audi crashed head-on into a 2016 Chrysler 200 driven by a 21-year-old man from Ionia.

“The Greenville woman was a passenger in the 2008 Audi and was pronounced dead at the scene,” the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff's office said the woman was “not wearing a seat belt” at the time of the crash and that the “other subjects were believed to be wearing their seat belts.”

Both drivers were transported to Corewell Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids with what the sheriff's office said were “non-life-threatening injuries.”

A 15-year-old boy riding in the Chrysler was taken to Devos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids after suffering non-life-threatening injuries.

The sheriff's office said it is “unknown” whether alcohol or drug use was to blame for the crash.

The crash is still under investigation.
