Off-duty APD officer dies in Douglas County neighborhood

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. – An off-duty Atlanta police officer died during an incident in Douglas County on Friday, according to authorities.

The officer was identified as Aubree Horton, a member of the Atlanta Police Department who joined as an officer back in November 2015.

Details are limited, but it appears the incident occurred on Orkney Way and East Carroll Road.

It is unclear how Horton died at this point.

The 11Alive SkyTracker flew over the yellow crime scene, which appears to be blocking a house. Several police cars can be seen around the house.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office said it responded to the scene but did not provide details about the incident.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said it was not involved in the investigation of the incident.
