Second woman charged with murder in connection with death of former Maquon police chief

KNOX Co., Ill. (KWQC) – A second woman has been charged in connection with the 2022 killing of former Maquon, Illinois Police Chief Richard Young.

According to Knox County Sheriff Jack Harlan, Karen Doubet of Maquon is charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault by administration of a dangerous substance, concealing a homicide and concealing a death.

According to Sheriff Harlan, Knox County investigators took Doubet into custody at her home in Maquon around 11 a.m. Friday. Doubet was taken to the Knox County Jail where she awaits a detention hearing.

The Knox County Investigations Unit worked diligently with Interim Prosecutor Sherry Weaver and Assistant Prosecutor Ashley Worby, Sheriff Harlan said.

In March 2023, Marcy Oglesby was charged with the murder of former police chief Young.

Oglesby had some of the charges against her dismissed, including charges of first-degree murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault by administration of a dangerous substance and concealing a murder during a hearing. The charges were dropped for procedural reasons, but the murder charge was reinstated in November 2023.

In October 2022, Knox County Sheriff's deputies were called to a storage unit for a report of the discovery of human remains.
