Moped driver killed in Grand Rapids crash

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – A man driving a moped was killed in a crash in Grand Rapids Friday afternoon.

The man's name has not been released.

According to a news release from the Grand Rapids Police Department, police responded to the accident at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, October 4, in the 1300 block of Sherman Street SE.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the moped driver, an adult male, ran a stop sign and was struck by a vehicle traveling north on Giddings Avenue SE, the release said. The other driver, who was not injured in the accident, remained at the scene and cooperated with police.

The moped driver was taken to hospital in critical condition to receive treatment for injuries sustained in the accident. According to the statement, he died a short time later in the hospital.

The accident remains under investigation by the Grand Rapids Police Department.
