Williamson County man is sentenced to 80 years in prison for killing teenager during a police chase

An Austin man was sentenced to 80 years in prison for killing a 14-year-old boy during a police chase in Round Rock in 2022.

On Wednesday, a jury found 28-year-old Leandro Brito-Martinez guilty of the vehicular homicide of 14-year-old Tobias Soto.

A video shared by Round Rock Police describes the incident that occurred at the intersection of La Frontera Boulevard and Louis Henna Boulevard on July 31, 2022 at approximately 5:30 p.m.

Officers attempted to locate a suspected stolen vehicle that Brito-Martinez was driving. He sped away from officers at over 100 miles per hour as he ran a red light, crashed into another car at the intersection, and then struck and killed Soto, who was walking through the intersection.

Brito-Martinez attempted to escape on foot but was eventually arrested.

At the time of this murder, Brito-Martinez had pending charges including fleeing a police officer, evading/resisting arrest and assault on an officer.
