The FBS transition didn't go particularly well for Kennesaw State. The Owls are still looking for their first win after suffering four straight losses by at least two possessions. That includes a recent 24-13 loss to FCS UT-Martin, which was 1-3 entering Week 5 play. As for Jacksonville State, it seems like the first-year FBS magic has run its course. Although the Gamecocks got their first win on Sept. 21 with a 37-point win over Southern Miss, they had previously lost three straight. Friday night is an opportunity for both teams to really put things right.

Northern Illinois may have lost its College Football Playoff hopes with back-to-back losses to NC State and Buffalo, but the Huskies are still in the thick of the MAC race. Although this game doesn't count toward the conference standings – since UMass is still independent – it is a preview of things to come when the Minutemen join the MAC in 2025. UMass is on a six-game losing streak against FBS opponents. dates back to a win against Army on October 28, 2023. It won't be easy coming out on top against Northern Illinois, but Don Brown's team is catching the Huskies after two tough games.

If you don't pay attention to the UConn football renaissance, it's your own fault. It turns out that UConn's basketball teams aren't the only ones capable of beating opponents into submission. The Huskies are 3-1 since their opening loss to Maryland and have won their last two games – against FBS opponents, mind you – by an average of 39 points. The Huskies are on track to make their second bowl game appearance in three years under coach Jim Mora. With a win against Temple they would at least be within two games.
