El Paso man arrested for intentionally hitting pedestrian with car

An El Paso man was arrested Monday after he allegedly intentionally crashed into a person in an east El Paso parking lot and then fled the scene, El Paso police said.

Rene Martinez, 32, was arrested for aggravated assault and is accused of intentionally crashing his car into 23-year-old Juan Flores Jr., seriously injuring him, EPPD said.

The incident reportedly occurred around 2:15 a.m. Monday in a parking lot along the block of 1440 N. Zaragoza Rd.

According to investigators, officers were investigating an accident when they were stopped for another collision with a pedestrian in the same parking lot.

EPPD was reportedly told that a fight occurred shortly before the collision and that one of the vehicles fled the scene.

The crash was intentional, an investigation determined, and EPPD's Personal Crimes Unit responded to the scene.

According to their investigation, Martinez intentionally hit Flores Jr. in the parking lot.

Flores Jr. suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital, according to EPPD.

Martinez, meanwhile, was booked into the El Paso County Detention Center on $350,000 bail.
